Headmaster’s Participation in Educational Conference organised by Harvard University
“The school gave me the opportunity of attending the University of Harvard’s Project Zero Conference ,“Thinking and Learning in the 21st Century” held in the American School of London at the beginning of October. Thought provoking talks were given by world renown presenters, leaders at Harvard, such as Howard Gardner (“Multiple Intelligences” theory developer) and David Perkins while workshops were organized by practitioners of Project Zero’s Visible Thinking Routines . Overall it was a fruitful experience that covered three enjoyable days.
Where does BDS stand? Many of the concepts covered are already part of our everyday language with importance given to globalization, autonomous learning techniques, interdisciplinary projects and developments in the use of technology. Certainly decisions taken over the last few years have put us in a healthy position as we plan and go forward “Educating for the Unknown”.
During the jornada pedagógica held on Thursday 24 October, the Middle & Senior staff evaluated five sets of Visible Thinking Routines: Core, Creative, Fairness, Truth and Understanding, with a target to implement them as from the beginning of 2014. At Middle & Seniors’ next staff development day, Wednesday 4 December, we will continue with this study”.
