P3 celebrates Shel Silverstein
The following project was carried out collaboratively during English language lessons and Library reading sessions. Each teacher made her own selection of Shel Silverstein’s poems to work with her class -from the books Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic and Falling Up.
We aimed, above all, to have students experience poetry as both pleasurable and meaningful, to explore the ways in which Shel Silverstein plays with language to create different effects on the reader, so that they could embark on the writing of their own poems to “shelebrate” him. The final task was to write such poems to be compiled into a book which students will present to P1-P2 at the BDS Library – where a “Shelebration BDS” event will be held. We will send pictures.
