News of the English Department: Creative Writing, Debate… and Travel Videos!
“The English Department has been very busy in May!” – explains Coordinator Gaby Correa.
“Janet Lenton (BDS Overall English Coordinator) has launched two Creative Writing Workshops. Middle & Senior students meet every two weeks and follow Janet’s writing prompts. Imagination, style and developing a personal voice are the names of the game, and the number of students joining in keeps growing. Write on!
On May 9, BDS hosted a friendly debate session against Oxford High School. Lucas Reynoso, Luis Pabón and Pablo Fregeiro (BDS Junior Team) could successfully prove that Failure teaches us more than success, and Lucía Laurencena, Alex Mysler and Maggie Galarraga (our Senior Team) had to oppose the motion that stated that Public figures are entitled to keep personal information secret.
The ESSARP Creative Writing Competition was held at St. Brendan’s College on May 14th. Here’s the list of the talented participants from BDS:
Beginners: Catalina Sambucetti – Olivia Serra (see: “More Primary News”)
Juniors: María Cabella – Michael Page
Intermediates: Candela Kalaidjian – Lucía Laurencena
Seniors: Sofía Brissón – Tomás Bréard- Anderson
We’re still awaiting the results, and looking forward to matching (or outdoing) last year’s huge success.
Senior 5 pupils had a very enjoyable time at the ESSARP Senior Forum hosted by Northlands on May 28th. Alex Mysler, María Speroni, Camila Arslanian, Marco Serafini, Lola Palmer, Agustina Cúneo, Manuel Alcalá, Lucía Souto and Delfina Cappa attended and had a lot to say about the topics that were debated at the forum: “Science is more capable of killing than of curing” and “For true success, intelligence is more important than education.”
M3C Language has been touring around the world with student-made videos of Beautiful Places and 10 Things to do There. Pupils have dedicated time and effort and great creativity to this project and the results are Travel Channel material! Good job!”
María Gabriela Correa, Coordinator of English, Middle & Senior
