ESSARP Model United Nations 2012

Coordinator Mónica Bruck reports:
“On August 11th,  the second EMUN conference at St. George’s College came to an end, after two days of intensive debating on various topics such as nuclear disarmament, global warming, the conflict in Syria and terrorism.

BDS students represented the United Kingdom and Iran in the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Environment Commission and  the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Lucas Gold, Natalia Marino, Maggie Galarraga, Leila Simonían, Belén Mourad, Matías Martini, Gonzalo Balassanian, Alex Mysler, Candela Kalaidjian, Manuel Alcalá and Valentina Safarián debated resolutions which were approved by the different commissions.

Three of our students were student officers. Antonella Gazzani chaired ECOSOC, Eduardo Ameghino chaired the Security Council and Thomas Page, the Special Political Commission of the GA. Their participation was crucial for the conference and they did an excellent job. On the other hand, Victoria Fregeiro was one of the Press Officers in charge of the official EMUN newsletter, where she commented the various events of the Conference. Copies of the newsletter were distributed at the end of the day with the summary of the highlights of the conference.

On Friday, at the end of the first day, the students enjoyed a great pizza party and a great show with the participation of two bands, one from St. George’s and one from St. Hilda’s. The following day, the Conference closed with a nice ceremony during which diplomas were handed out to the coaches, chairs and delegates”.

“Attending the EMUN was a great experience. I had always wanted to be a press officer, to write about what happens around me. I really enjoyed the two days I spent at St. George’s.  I liked to see the other students engaged enthusiastically in their debates. I had a fantastic time.”  Toya Fregeiro (S5L).
