Creative Writing
Great news for our CREATIVE WRITERS! Congratulations to all the participants of the ESSARP Creative Writing Competition. In particular to Lucía Tissera (3rd Prize Junior Category), Santiago Comes (1st Prize Junior Category), Florencia Gadea (Honourable Mention Intermediate Category) and Nicole Kohan (2nd Prize Senior Category). BDS was the school with the most awards! The ESSARP Creative Writing Competition is particularly challenging, because the students are given a set of prompts and they have to come up with a story there and then! How is that for inspiration?
For those who love writing, but would rather take their time, there is the Colegio del Arce Competition. Students send in their stories and poetry, both in Spanish and in English, and then the preselected authors attend a nerve-racking awards ceremony, where we find out who gets the awards. Teachers are now collecting and revising work with their students. We all look forward to bringing in as many prizes as in previous years.
Debate
On Monday, August 28, our Junior Team participated in the Octo-finals of the Acorn Interschool Debate Cup 2017, and… They won by a unanimous decision of the judges. Congratulations to Nacho Triaca, Santi Comes and Manuela Sánchez Decotto, who debated this time, and to Lucía López Farías and Clara Pallotta, who didn’t, but are very active members of the team as well. They are even designing a BDS Debate pin for themselves! Any suggestions?
The Senior Team, Florencia Gadea, Pablo Pociecha and Ana Cruz, will be participating in the elimination rounds of Copa Ombú on September 15. This is a whole-day event, which is held at Universidad de Palermo.
A Truly Special Project
Not a competition, but an activity that is worth celebrating. As a final outcome of the unit on Rhetoric, S6 students wrote essays under the general title This I Believe. It took much reflecting, drafting, editing, reflecting some more, sharing, arguing, rewriting. But the end result were essays that came from the heart as well as from the mind. Students made a display of their thesis statements on the English Department notice board. And you? What do you believe?
