Más sobre “Round Square”: viajes… y aprendizaje en servicio

Quien escribe sobre el tema es el Director de Middle & Senior y Coordinador Académico del BDS, Prof. Steven Page:

At the end of May Federico Johansen and I visited Markham College in Lima, Perú, to share experiences regarding our interest (and future planning) in becoming a member of Round Square. The Headmaster, Mr David Dowdles, and his staff went out of their way to make us welcome and, in only a period of two days, to cover all areas of interest. This included talks with: student representatives of about 8 different student led councils, meetings with Kinder, Primary and Secondary teachers and another with the Chairman of Markham’s Board of Governors, who is himself a member of the Round Square Board.

We visited a social project in Las Palmas de Lurin, where the school was busily involved in the construction of permanent classrooms for Kindergarten aged pupils, the construction of a cement staircase and fencing the perimeter of the adjacent, local Primary School.

We returned with many ideas plus an invitation to take part in their Las Palmas project. After discussions with several families, a small delegation has been made that along with teachers Patricia Doria Medina and Hugo Aguirre will travel to Lima from 14 July through to 21 July. These students will work alongside their Peruvian hosts and help develop this project to its next level.

Congratulations to M3 students Delfina Cappa, Valentina Safarian, María Speroni Corbella, Matías Alejandro Martino Garcet and from S4 Tomás Bréard Anderson and a big thank you to their parents for allowing their children to travel at such short notice.

As mentioned before, two S5 students will travel to the UK in October and will attend, as Observers, the International Round Square Conference 2011 hosted by Wellington College. A short while ago it was announced that Her Majesty the Queen will officially open the event -certainly, a unique honour.
