The Reading Programme, Boosting in P1!
P1 team is implementing some new activities during the ¨Guided Reading Sessions¨ which take place twice a week in each classroom. While two groups of children are reading with their teachers, the other two groups engage in enriching independent work.
One day a week they have a netbook and listen to stories they choose on their own, supervised by Marco, our IT assistant, who helps them with technical advice. They love it! The resources in the BDS Library are varied and the options are infinite! We can see they enjoy choosing their own favourite title individually. On the second day, the two groups who are not reading, play fun literacy games. They build up words with letter cards, they make up sentences, they sort out words according to their initial sound, they play memotest with Letterland words, among others! The children play in groups and they profit from collaborative work. Later, we share what they did with the whole group. The results are fantastic! The kids put their knowledge to the test and they make a big effort to show the best they can do developing their literacy skills, both traditional and the new digital ones.
Let’s go for more! Good Job, P1 teachers!

New Recycling Bins (in the playground and in the corridors)
Remember the 3 R’s!: Reduce, Reuse…Recycle!!! As shown in a previous blog entry, P6 pupils have taken a keen interest in environmental issues and keep contributing enthusiastically in our school campaigns.
This time, they lent a vital hand in helping the little ones to sort waste and learn what to throw in each of the new bins. P6 volunteers collected different kinds of rubbish, explained the meaning of the bin labels during the Assembly and, finally, lead the hands-on practice which, thanks to them, turned out to be lots of fun! We plan to visit Kinder 5 to help them classify trash, too. Meanwhile, our Monsters keep collecting specific waste as part of a school-based programme for bottle-tops, A4 paper written on one side, Garrahan paper, wool, keys and sachets.
