The Wizard of Oz” Drama Club 2012

This year in the Drama Club, we worked on “The Wizard of Oz”, one of the most charming stories of all times. I adapted the script directly from the famous movie and added two wicked witches to the cast. The girls were very enthusiastic about the play from the very beginning, and each of them wanted to play a different role since all of them are extremely appealing to be performed.  Before starting the rehearsals, we watched the movie -starring Judy Garland as Dorothy- and took a lot of useful information from it about the characters, their personalities, conflicts, ways of speaking and acting, the costumes, the scenery, etc.  The group rehearsed responsibly throughout the year, learnt their lines and brought themselves amazing costumes (some of them homemade). Every year, the Drama Club shows its play in the ESSARP Drama Festival, held at Florida Day School. Unfortunately, this year we couldn’t attend because the girl who played the main role had to be operated on that same week.  Nevertheless we had the opportunity to show the play in our auditorium with beautiful scenery (Thanks, Marisú, for that!) and costumes. I’m very proud to say that the girls' performances were great and one of the most important things is that they learnt how to speak on stage without using microphones (like most professional actors do in theaters). The audience, P6 and specially invited relatives, enjoyed it very much and we all learnt a lot with this wonderful experience. Yaiza Conti Ferreyra

Maths Olympics: National Finals in Córdoba

Academic Coordinator and Director of Middle & Senior Schools, Steven Page, accompanied the finalists to Tanti, Córdoba, and reports:
"During the week of Monday 5 November, Belgrano Day School was represented by its students Daniel Figueroa Roche (M2) and Hee Jung Lee (S5) at the National Finals held in Tanti, Province of Córdoba. The students underwent two gruelling tests of three and a half hours each, in which they had to respond to 6 problems. Naturally, this level -the last of 5 rounds that through the year filter out students of lesser ability- is extremely demanding and competitive. Both boys did very well, their best. Hee, as in 2011, received an Honorary Mention. Both boys were a pleasure to travel with and my congratulations go to both of them, their parents and to their teachers of Mathematics who helped in their preparation".
