For the last two years, BDS has been participating in the ESSARP Model United Nations (EMUN). This is an authentic simulation of the UN General Assembly and other multilateral bodies. This conference is organized by ESSARP (English Scholastic Association of the River Plate) and the debates are all in English. A Model United Nations promotes student and teacher interest in international relations and related subjects, increases the capacity for students to engage in problem solving, teaches aspects of conflict resolution, research skills and communication skills, and creates the opportunity to meet people and make new friends. Two countries, two big challenges  This year the delegation of our school has been assigned two countries: The Republic of Korea and Afghanistan. The former has representation not only in the General Assembly and the Environment Commission but in the Security Council and  ECOSOC . The main topic of the conference will be “Power and Accountability”. The following students will be representing South Korea: Agostina Dasso (S6S), Martina Freire (S4A), Lucas Gold (S6H), Candela Kalaidjian (S4A), Yael Kohan (S4C), M. Belén Mourad (S6H) and Sofía Terán (S4B).  Afghanistan will be represented by Delfina Cappa (S5L), Matías Martino (S5S) and Alex Mysler (S5L). ... And two BDS Chairpeople, plus a Press Officer In addition to the students mentioned above, we are proud because Thomas Page (S6S) and Antonella Gazzani (BDS class of 2012) have been selected to chair two of the committees. Victoria Fregeiro will be attending as Press Officer. The topics to be debated are the following: -          GA 1: Combating piracy in the high seas in the waters of Eastern Africa and Southern Asia, trading arms to terrorist organizations and preventing and prosecuting cyber warfare. -          GA 3: Increasing the effort in civil registration in Africa, the reform and regulation of humanitarian aid and rehabilitating victims of human trafficking. -          GA 4: Increasing security and stability of the Mediterranean region, the situation in Haiti and the issue of the independence of Taiwan, -          Environment Commission: Clearing water, a focus on water quality solutions, measures to prevent the export of hazardous material and question of genetically modified food. -          Security Council:  The question of Somalia, Syria and the Democratic Republic of Congo. -          ECOSOC: The economic and social situation in Palestine, social and economic policies to foster decent work opportunities for young people and international cooperation against the world drug problem. The conference will be taking place at Michael Ham Memorial College, Nordelta, on August 9^th and 10^th, 2013. This will be a special conference because a team of delegates will be elected to represent ESSARP schools at an international conference at The Hague, Netherlands  (THIMUN) in January 2014.
