First Conference Just like last year the ESSARP Model United Nations (EMUN) Conference will take place at Michael Ham Nordelta on June 27th and 28^th. BDS was assigned two delegations: the Russian Federation and The Netherlands. Lucas Reynoso, Ana Paula Velástegui, Lola Romero, Mercedes Mariño and Valentina Cappa from S4, Martina Freire, Candela Kalaidjian, Malena Fronza and Sofia Terán from S5 and Delfina Cappa, Matías Martino and Alex Mysler from S6 will be participating. The main theme of the Conference is “Latin America, changes and challenges ahead”.  The General Assembly commissions will be discussing other interesting topics like “use of drones in counter-terrorism”, “further facilitating access of Latin American countries to the markets of developed countries”, “improving human rights for those living in extreme poverty”, “economic growth, urbanization and the rights of children” amongst others. The Security Council will be discussing the question concerning Haiti, post conflict peace building and the question of the Ukraine. Second Conference (to be held in Montevideo) The topics for the above conference have been chosen in accordance with the topics to be debated at yet another conference: the First Annual Session of THIMUN (The Hague International Model United Nations) which will be held in Montevideo on 14-16 August 2014. This will be the fourth THIMUN Conference after The Hague, Singapore and Qatar. BDS will be attending this conference with six students from S5 and S6: Martina Freire, Candela Kalaidjian, Malena Fronza, Sofia Teran, Alex Mysler and Delfina Cappa. Just like EMUN, this Conference is a 3-day simulation of the United Nations for secondary students offering an excellent opportunity to expand, develop and put into practice English language skills, on an informal as well as a formal level. The object of the Conference is to seek through discussion, negotiation and debate, solutions to the various problems of the world: questions of human rights, protection of the environment, economic development, disarmament as well as the critical issue of war and peace. As this is an international conference, it will be an excellent opportunity to meet students from other countries. BDS was assigned the delegation of Guatemala. Our students will be able to discuss problems that face Latin American countries first hand. We hope that our delegates will learn a lot at both conferences and we wish them all the best!!
