English News (and Spanish, too!)

1014_English NewsLiterary Awards

Our students’ participation in the  XV Concurso Literario “Cuento Corto y Poesía”/XII Literature Contest “Short Story and Poetry”, sponsored  by the Secretaría de Educación del Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, was extraordinary.

Two stories in Spanish, four in English, one poem in Spanish and two in English were preselected for the final. The outhors of those pieces were: Florencia Gadea Granadé (M1C),Morena La Vecchia Galán (M2C), Nicole Kohan (M2C), Fernando Boudourian (S4C), Lucrecia Márquez (S4C), Lucila Casas (S5L) y Candela Kalaidjian (S5H).

And here is the stunning list of winners:

“Rotty”, by Florencia Gadea Granadé (M1C): 1st  Prize Short Story in English – Category A

“The Island of the Diamond Rose” , by Nicole Kohan (M2C): 1st  Prize Short Story in English – Category B

“And here’s to you Mrs. Robinson”, by Lucila Casas (S5L): 1st  Prize Short Story in English – Category C

“Avenida Santa Fe”, by Candela Kalaidjian (S5H): 2nd  Prize Short Story in English – Category C

“Julia”, by Candela Kalaidjian (S5H): Mención Honoraria – Cuento en Español – Categoría C

“Sunrise”, by Candela Kalaidjian (S5H): Honourable Mention – Poem in English – Category C

It is undeniably the case that these results are the fruit of great natural talent, but we are also convinced that the guidance and enthusiasm of our teachers has greatly contributed to the blooming of our budding writers. To our students and their teachers: congratulations!

We invite the whole community to read these and other texts written by BDS students in the Anthology (in Spanish and English) that will be published by the end of the year.

Debate: Acorn Cup 2014

For the first time, both our Junior and Senior Debate Teams made it to the quarter finals in the Interschool Debate Cup. They did not win, but their performance was still outstanding: Juniors went undefeated until this last round, and Seniors competed against students who were up to two years older than them.

Juniors: Ana Cruz, Andrea Erbetti, Michael Page, Gonzalo Pereyra, Daniela Riggio

Seniors: Mercedes Mariño, Lucas Reynoso, Alejo González Virgili

Great job!

We would also like to announce that Alejo González Virgili (S4C) has been selected for the National Parliamentary Debate Team which will represent Argentina at the Pan-American Debating Championship that will be held in Los AngelesUSA, from January 5th  to January 12th , 2015.

We wish Alejo and the whole team great success.
