Leadership course

ESSARP Home "At the beginning of the year, when Mr. Page told us that ESSARP was organizing a Leadership course for Head Boys and Head Girls, we accepted without really knowing what was awaiting us. The retreat lasted three days and we shared the experience with Head Boys and Head Girls from 16 other schools in the association! During these days, we carried out several interactive activities and participated in talks through which we got to know the real meaning of the word LEADER.  At the same time, we made new friends and were able to see and learn about the way they carry out their role at different schools. It was most useful to discuss the attributes of a true leader; things we should work on to improve our performance as Head Boy & Girl at BDS, but also to inspire others.  We hope this will not end here, but that more courses like this one will be organized year after year. It was an unforgettable experience we highly recommend!"

General Knowledge Competition 2014

BDS has been organizing General Knowledge Interhouse Competitions for Middle School for the last few years and we are very happy to announce the 2014 edition. However, this time, in addition to the Middle School competition, there will be another one... in Senior School! The English and History Departments are once again in charge. We are starting off with the Senior competition which will take place on Tuesday, May 27th   at 8.30 am. The teams will be formed by students from S4, S5 and S6. The House captains will be responsible for choosing the members of their teams. All Senior students will be invited to watch the competition. Results and information about the Middle School contest will be announced later in this blog. Monica Bruck - Humanities Department Coordinator, Middle & Senior

Model United Nations 2014

0314_Model UNBelgrano Day School has been participating in Model United Nations programs for almost ten years. Secondary students represent delegations belonging to various countries and debate different international issues. Among the students participating this year are Delfina Cappa, Alex Mysler and Matías Martino from S6, Candela Kalaidjian, Martina Freire, Sofía Terán, Yael Kohan from S5, and Lucas Reynoso, Valentina Cappa and Lola Romero, from S4.

Once again the conference will be organized by ESSARP, at Michael Ham Memorial College of Nordelta, on June 27th and 28th. This time we will be representing the Russian Federation and the Netherlands. The main issue will be “Latin America: Transformations and challenges”. This year, there will be four General Assembly Commissions: GA1 (Disarmament and International Security): Use of drones in counter-terrorism. GA2 (Economic and Financial): Further facilitating access of Latin American countries to the markets of developed countries; GA3 (Social, humanitarian and cultural): Improving human rights for those living in extreme poverty; GA6 (Legal): Monitoring the application of the law concerning trans-boundary aquifers and other water resources. The Security Council will be addressing the question concerning Haiti and post-conflict peace building. ECOSOC will deal with advancing youth empowerment for sustainable development in Latin America and developing the relationship between Latin Regional communities. The Human Rights Commission will discuss sponsoring economic and educational opportunities for women and girls in rural Latin America and the topics of economic growth, urbanization and the rights of children.

As usual, our students will have to research their countries and become experts on their topics. I am confident that the debates will be passionate and inspiring and that our students will profit from them. Monica Bruck - Humanities Department Coordinator, Middle & Senior
